Mantras

Congratulations, you’ve just completed your second Meditation session with MindEasy.
From the next session onwards, I’m going to start reducing the the amount of times I repeat your personal mantra with you. The end goal of this course is for you to reach a point where your Mantra flows into your mind with no external help.
Let's talk briefly about your mantra
The mantra is a tool, or technique, if you will, which enables us to concentrate the mind and let our busy, fleeting thoughts pass through our minds without us reacting.
For this reason, we need a mantra which as no connotation to the outside worlds – for example, if we chose our first pet’s name, we would have an emotional connection and therefore a distraction.
Thats why we pick something as purposefully meaningless and distant as possible. If its an ancient Buddhist one then so be it, but if it’s a completely made-up set of syllables, then that’s perfect too.
Are mantras still relevant today:
The reason why these seemingly random words are effective is that they are neutral to us. This neutrality means we can associate a new, blank state of mind and when the association is strong enough we can then draw on that healthy neutrality in our daily lives to counteract worry or anxiety.
Maintaining the neutrality of the mantra is imperative to maintaining its power. One way we do this is by keeping your own personal mantra a secret because we cannot predict someone else’s reaction to it. If they expressed a negative opinion, hearing this might affect our own opinion and affect its neutrality.
I’m not going to ask you to keep any secrets, but give you some of the reason why we keep certain traditions. It is your Mantra, so it’s your choice as to how you use it.
